I absolutely love this place! Their lunch buffet is delicious ! From steaks to fish to salads...Fresh fruits and veggies and the best Ham and cheese butter croissants (toasted.. I order it all the time ..haha)... Great coffee too.. They're hidden and at first , you'll feel as though they don't take too kindly to those that aren't regulars or Portuguese but don't judge a book by its cover ..they'll warm up to you. They're great!! The only downfall is that they're so good that sometimes you might feel as though you have to wait a little longer in the line to pay but with everything being so fresh and good...it's worth it .... Love this place !! Best food I tell you ..definitely check it out if you're in the ironbound section

This is a friendly authentic Portuguese bakery that also serves wholesome food including simple fish dishes. Yes most of the people that work there do not speak English, Spanish or Portuguese, but they are totally friendly and helpful. The great thing about this place is it is where neighborhood Portuguese people go to converse, drink coffee, eat a light supper after work. The place is totally authentic and it is one local place where you can get some wholesome food for a very reasonable price. There are plenty of tables so you can almost always find place to sit. I enjoy the atmosphere and food here regularly enough and recommend it.

I stop in any time I'm in Newark. They carry the thick Portuguese style toast that I've only ever had on my many trips to Portugal. Coffee is great. They also have a variety of Portuguese pastries.

This was a very pleasant experience. The staff was courteous and attentive, making sure every customer was served. Although the bakery was a bit crowed, it wasn't anything too bad. The food was good as well. The sandwich bread was soft and lightly toasted while the cheese was melty and bacon just the right amount of crispy. You also have some choice on if you would like certain condiments on your sandwich as the staff makes sure to ask. The food was reasonably priced for what you get. I also liked that they had a tip jar which made it feel like an actual tip and not something you were forced into giving. Overall a great place to stop by and get something to eat.

Enjoyed the lunch buffet. Food was delicious. Very reasonably priced, charged 9.00 per lb. Was told by the coworkers who I ate with there is something different every day. Will definitely go back!

Update 5/1/23: Been here a couple more times with my parents and they also enjoyed it a lot. There's a lot of variety on rotation, and I continued to get the beef slices. They may look a bit dry sometimes, but was tasty and not too dry all 3 times I got it. My mom loves their bowl of soup ($3). Bottled water is $1 and soft drinks $1.50. You can pay with card or cash. Original review 2022: At $9/lb, their meal is great value! It's Buffet style, so sanitize your hands and grab a plate or a takeout container and pick your choosing! The price is different if you only take fish/meat ($17/lb), or fish/meat + salad ($15/lb), or salad/fruit only ($8/lb). Basically, if you want to be charged $9/lb you need to have at least around 50% of your plate consisting of sides, and the sign says that sides includes rice, potato, veggies, beans and salad includes lettuce, carrot, onions, tomato, and beets). There's a separate counter for salad/fruits, including a Russian salad (potato based salad with mayo). Would the Russian salad count as salad or as side? No idea! For my first try, I chose rice, beans, broccoli, peppers, grilled beef, and a bit of Portuguese sausage and what I assume to be some chouriço croquette. Everything was tasty, yet healthy. The fact that you can choose what you put there makes it easier to get an equilibrated dish. My husband got rice, chickpeas, a piece of fish, oxtail?, and a potato. Most things were delicious here too, the oxtail had a strong wine taste to it which he appreciated but I didn't. The fish was a bit hard and we were not fans. The sardinhas looked better, but I don't usually like sardinhas 😭 or fish in general. Once you're done choosing, you can pay with cash or card at the counter next to the buffet area and they weigh in front of you. Since this was the first time we got food here, we weighed the food at home and we had a bit over 2lbs (~2.2 lbs) but got charged just 2 lbs. Not sure if they rounded down to account for the container.

This was always a favorite lunch spot when I worked nearby - the Portuguese grandmother I never had, cooking me awesome lunch almost every day. They’re definitely listed in Portuguese travel guides, judging by how many Portuguese tourists are always there. Smart. Some even BYO it with some wine - I love that touch, too.
